there is a 224 with a mower deck at a local tool and die shop waiting for some type of repair, it's been out back of that shop for a few years and is very rough. Should I make an offer, if so, how much?

Mower deck is present, original engine, surface rust, flat tires....but hey, it's a case!!!!

Talk to them and get a feel for it, do they want to be rid of it, using that offer them $50 to $100 and go from there, but they may say just get it out of there, good luck.

Yes......... I agree with Frank. Take a low key approach by opening up the dialogue with "What's the story on that sad looking lawn mower sitting out back?" . That's all it will take to get the lowdown on it. But be prepared... they might not be in a position to sell it because they don't own it. Perhaps some customer brought it there to have something done but they've never heard from the guy since. They want it gone but are afraid to dispose of it in case the guy suddenly shows up to claim his property. However, it's worth the effort to ask. You never know where that will lead and may end up with a 224 for free. :thumbsup:

Could be a matter of just no one took the responsibility to try and get in touch with the owner and get it out of there. Indifference. You could be the trigger to get something done. I would say, hey what's the story with that old tractor? Do you want to get it out of there? Owner may have no interest until someone wants it. I think it's best if they make an attempt to get in touch with the owner so you don't restore it and have someone claiming it after the fact. Free removal first off offer, or maybe they need to say, hey we have someone here who will give you $50 bucks for it.
