Bearings go bad with age, not simply hours. Or getting wet ...

BINGO, Brian. Much of my property turns to swamp throughout most of the spring, and it drastically shortens bearing life. However, since I've been adding bearing shields (like on the later Ingy decks) it seems I'm replacing them less often.

Hi, Brad, sorry for the delayed response, just got home from work. If you go to the parts manual for the RM series decks you will see them pictured. they are just a stamped metal cup that covers up the bottom of the spindle housing, with drain holes on the bottom for any small amounts of water that get above the lip of the cup. A friend of mine who used to run an Ingy dealership suggested this to me due to my swampy property, and he adds them to every deck he puts bearings in. I see them as cheap insurance.
