Getting ready to order chains and happened across a pair of off road tires a guy is selling locally. They are super-swampers, 9/32-16 (32" dia. x 8.80" wide) This seems pretty close to the turfs, maybe an inch taller or so, I can get them for less than a new set of chains from tirechains.com. Think they will work? :winterrules:

If you NEED chains, then no tire will take the place of chains. It's just that simple. Fat tires get worse traction then skinny tires do. Fat tires are for soft ground so that the machine does not sink. Adding weight is what's needed but adding fat tires defeats the purpose of adding weight.


- buy 2 link chains

- load the stock turf tires with RimGuard

- put 2 pair of cast iron Case D-10 wheel weights on the rear rims. 3 pair is even better.

- add another 400 LBS of cast iron, steel or lead just behind the rear axle and as close to the axle as you can get it.

That's what works.

Those swampers are going to be too hard and you will have to put TONS of weight on + chains to get any traction with them.

Yeah, I thought you might say that. Those are some sweet tires though, ordered chains today. Thanks.
I wonder how they would look on my Honda hybrid...
