Seems a little rough for an '82 and to be asking $750 for it.

For sale 1982 Case 446. Deck has new bearings and blades 48" deck. Needs PTO clutch work it does have new bearings. Engine needs rebuilt. This mower is in very good shape no rust runs but uses about a pint of oil an hour. Week nights only call (816) 215-7822 between 4pm and 9pm weekends 8am-9pm.

In my opinion, this tractor isn't worth more than half the asking price. The Seller openly admits that the engine needs to be rebuilt and states that it uses one pint of oil per hour. There are only 4 pints of oil in an Onan. The rate of loss is far too high to continue using this tractor. You are constantly risking engine failure due to partial oil starvation, especially if you use the tractor on hilly terrain.

On top of that, he also states that the clutch needs repair and who's to say what that will entail?

Bottom line is that his ad should have read. "I drove the living crap out of this tractor and now I want to pass it off to someone else for the most money I can get out of it before the engine blows."

Realistically, it costs around $1000.00 to do a proper engine rebuild when an Onan is under the hood. The clutch repair could cost another $200.00 to repair if a new main shaft, disc and washers are needed. If you pay $750.00 for the tractor and you rebuild the clutch and engine, suddenly you have two grand into this tractor.

Tom you must have missed where he said "this mower is in very good shape no rust".
Are you sure that doesn't trump a junk engine and bad clutch? :headscratcher:
I'd hate to think how much more he'd want if it did have a little rust on it.
And if it had a flat tire that thing would be golden.

I did read those words and laughed.

Those things trump the junk engine and bad clutch in his mind but not in mine. If the tractor is in good shape, then he should have posted photos to show us. However, even if it is in good shape, it won't be pristine. Whether he realizes it or not, he has nothing more than a parts tractor and those sell for $300.00 or so. If he had options or attachments, then the value would be higher. You can't blame a guy for trying to get the biggest return for his junk because we all do it. But that's not the issue, is it? It always comes down to what a buyer will fork over on a given day and what he will accept.

Good luck to him.
