CCK's are 100 percent cast iron, super heavy duty engines that were designed for the Onan portable generators that run at full throttle (1800 RPM) all day long. The con rods have bearing inserts just like car engines do.

Arguably, the best engine that Onan ever produced and yet.....we still get people coming on the forums and wanting to repower their loader with a modern engine. They don't take into consideration the stellar service the old CCKA has already given for the past 35 years or more.

The CCK's could be governed at several different speeds, depending on the application. They were used for portable generators, portable welding equipment, water pumps etc as well as duty in garden tractors and other outdoor power equipment.

To get a long life out of those engines and quieter running, some gensets ran these engines at 1800 RPM. However, when used in the Case 600 series, they were governed at the traditional 3600 RPM.

Sorry if I misled you.

I sure hope that this will teach you to listen to Mrs. xfolkboat from now on.

boomer the parts manual that I have for the CCKA says that the aluminum rod was used spec A-C and that they started putting inserts in at spec D. The 646 parts manual says my CCKA should a spec J. I've got pieces of a CCKA engine out of a 646B and it has cast iron rods with inserts but aluminum heads.

cylinder heads.
when you refer to the 646B that is the TRACTOR.
the CCKA spec is for the engine only. (A thru J)
NOW you totally confused!!!
