In a desperate to have it running mode. I have saved two cranks by cleaning them with muriatic acid. Once I got all the aluminum off them, and checked them with a mic. We honed the block, new rod, piston, and rings. Both are still running great. Before ya'll decide to blast my ears off., I am NOT saying this is the correct way. DESPERATION, got to have it mode.
