Hi Folks,
The 3000 series tractor is a low profile garden tractor that is spin off from the Ingersoll 226. As the last production of 226s was 1988, they included the integral travel control valve/holding valve, silver painted wheels and the three light indicator panel mounted into a new black plastic panel covering the metal. These standard equipment features were continued on the 1989 and subsequent 3000 series tractors along with some major changes. As the EZ Adjust clutch had been discontinued, an electric clutch/brake was introduced to replace it. In order to do this, the engine had to be turned around so the PTO end of the crankshaft was facing forward. Also at this time the B series Onan engines had been discontinued and replaced with Onan Performer series engines. The Onan P series engine have a solid state ignition system which replaced the coil, breaker points and condenser found on the B series engines. The hydraulic pump was changed to one that turned the opposite direction from a 226. Mounting of the pump was by an adapter that lined up with and centered on the flywheel and attached with four bolts. The pump as it is no longer mounted to a support bracket, and has an anti-torque arm contacting the tractor frame thru a shock mount. The panel has a round hourmeter in place of the ammeter, a separate switch for the lights and a toggle switch for the now electric PTO clutch/brake. The hydraulic oil cooler/heat exchanger has been relocated to the lower left side of the steering tower. The addition of a plastic belly pan was needed to improve air flow thru the oil cooler. The cooling air flow is provided by the flywheel mounted engine cooling fan as it draws in cooling air and pushes it into the engine and exhausting out the front of the tractor thru the grill on the hood. Along with this came some sheetmetal changes. The hood now has a removable grill, a black plastic shroud around the headlights, and the rear fenders are extended down and connect to the rear of the foot pads. Rear red reflectors are on the rear fenders which in time were upgraded to a red lighted tail light. A different hydraulic reservoir with battery support to the left hand side is installed. The Onan engine mounted regulator/rectifier is now utilized. The other major change is to the mower decks which are now right hand discharge and called RM series mower decks. All of these changes have been done to the 4000 series tractors.:geek:

More 3000 series tractors info:
The 3000 series tractors had three different groups of engines. This makes looking for parts more involved and important to know the model number, engine group and PIN number of the tractor when you are looking for parts manuals and or operators manuals.
The 3010 is a model of its own, but shares a Kohler M series engine group with some 3012, 3014 models. The Kohler M series engine is similar to the K series engines to a certain extent. There are also Vanguard powered 3012s, 3014s, 3016s and 3018s. To add to this mix, there are also Onan P series powered tractors, the 3016s and 3018s and 3020s. Some models of 3016, 3018 and 3020 both Onan and Vanguard powered had power steering and were designated 3016PS, 3018PS and 3020PS models. The power steering models have a larger volume output hydraulic pump to support the hydraulic steering system.
So needles to say, one needs to know which specific 3000 series tractor being dealt with.
To add more to this mix, in 1997 and 1998 Ingersoll produced an Odyssey which was a basic Vanguard powered 3014, but with a mix of both older and newer parts. Fortunately or unfortunately, the Odyssey was painted a charcoal grey!
To add to this 3000 and Odyssey mix, there were gearing changes done in the transaxle, a topic that I will discuss in another post here in Mac's Corner in the future!:geek:

To add more about the 3000 series tractors, Ingersoll did produce an all hydraulic tractor, the 3118 which was Onan P218 powered, and another 3118D which also was all hydraulic but was powered with a Perkins 3 cylinder diesel engine. The hood on the 3118D has an extension forward as the Perkins diesel engine was longer and liquid cooled so it had a radiator. Both of these models were produced for a short period around 1992-1993. All attachments for these tractors had hydraulic motors to drive them, the mower deck and the snow caster. Other attachments were specific to the all hydraulic drive tractors and not necessarily interchangeable with attachments intended for use on non all hydraulic tractors.
In the 4000 series lineup, an all hydraulic model the 4118 and the 4118D were also added.
In the 4000 series basics you will see many similarities to the 3000 series lineup.:geek:
