Why does that matter so much? Put wings on either side that stick out 4 inches and voila..... 48" cut width. Case has been putting wings on the 38" snowcaster since the 60's to make them 42" cut width and no one's complaining.

The smaller ones are as heavy duty like the larger one.. The gear box is different on this one this one is made for a small lawn tractor.

I may have to settle for a 40 but I am in no hurry now that spring is right around the corner.

The rototiller is saying me next....
