My apologies if you are offended by these names but in the world of internet forums, that's what non-posting members are referred to as. Now... don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with being a Lurker or Lookey -Lou. Most of us have been in that mode at least one time in our life. However, I think that you will have to agree that a forum isn't a forum if it does not have members who post. After all, Lurkers and Lookey-Lou's need something to read, don't they? So..... this thread is here exclusively for you.

Members who are already posting on the site should not vote in the Poll nor should they post any replies. Any replies made by members with posts to their credit will be deleted.

Everyone needs to know that Polls on this site are 100 percent anonymous. ADMIN has no way of knowing which members voted, which did not nor do they know which Poll choice was selected by which member.

You do not have to post in the thread in order to vote, either. All we ask is that you use your mouse and click on the most appropriate reason for not posting. It's that simple and I don't think that we are asking too much for you to do that.

So please, step out of the shadows and give us (in Admin) some insight as to what keeps you from joining in with the others who do post. We are hoping to learn something here and perhaps make some changes that would make it possible for some of you to take an active part. You are also free to post your comments in this thread. We welcome that. Just keep it civil. :sidelaugh:

Thanks to all who have voted so far. Some of you have indicated that there are reasons for you not posting that were not reflected in the other choices. We understand and that's why we put that option there. However, it would be really helpful if we knew what those reasons actually were. Now, you can help us with that, one of two ways. You can put a post in this thread and give us the details or you can just send me a PM (Private Message) by using that feature. If you click on the MEMBERS link at the top right side of your screen underneath the banner for the site, you will find my name on page 2 as member 26. Click on my name. On the left side of your screen, you will see icons for e-mail and PM, Click on either icon and send me your letter.

Everyone needs to understand that we take this Poll very seriously in Admin. We appreciate the co-operation of the active members in not voting in the Poll because that would distort the results.

As of today, the number of votes cast sits at 26 and the thread fell off the board and landed on Page 2. So.......what does that say to us in Admin?

Well, it indicates that there are far fewer non-participants reading this site on a daily basis than we thought. It also tells us that there aren't any changes we can make that would get you to be actively involved. Factually speaking, somewhere around 66.6666666 percent of the total membership has not posted so much as one time. There could be a myriad of reasons for that, which I won't get into in this thread. The non-posting phenomena in conjunction with the strong member count seems to be the way most forums work. Most of you know that I am an alumni of the Yahoo forum. Currently, they claim to have over 6000 names in their member rostrum but only a handful of members actually participate there on a regular basis. MTF has over 68,000 members but only a small percentage are avid users. Some people join, look around and never return. Others join, find what they need in our library and don't come back unless they find they need another bit of information. That's OK. Different strokes......

I suppose we in Admin were looking for a magic solution to a problem where no such solution exists. To those who voted for Option 2, I am at a loss on how to fix that complaint. Whatever you find intimidating about Hilda is your perception. You are bound to run into people with strong opinions no matter where you go in life and this forum is no different. In part, it exists because of my strong opinions and if you ask some of the members, they will tell you that they followed me from forum to forum and eventually to here due to my strong opinions. If I am to truly believe that 6 members won't participate because of my personality, then I guess we will never hear from you. That's a shame because you are not doing yourself any favours if you have questions but can't get answers because you fear my reply.

I am now throwing the door open wide to any and all who wanted to post in this thread earlier but respectfully complied with our request.

I'm a lurker. I visit the site daily but just don't feel I have anything meaningful to add. The majority of the post I read on the site are from guys (no offense Hilda) that are seasoned tractor salesmen, mechanics, operators, etc. As of now I feel I'm a student of the forum, quitely absorbing what I can, hoping to someday make a post that provides some help as you all are helping others every day.

I also enjoy comedic relief occassional ofered. :trink:

Thanks Willowmaster,
Exactly my thoughts...Love the information, just don't feel I can contribute yet. Love these tractors, I have 3 of them. I have learned a ton about my '83 446 , just purchased in Oct. If I run into anything I havn't seen posted, I'll be glad to share..:usa:

Bahhh that's a horrible excuse.

I only know enough about these things to be dangerous. There's tons of other threads on the site (especially the off topic section) that unless you're easily offended we would love to see people participate in. :trink:

I'm dangerous and in trouble all the time too, especially with Hilda! :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh: I believe everyone has a lot to offer. So please don't hold back, we want to hear from you! Please remember we are all learning here no matter what the level of knowledge or how many tractors we own.

I feel the same as most, I don't have much info to share with the forum, I do not want to give anyone the wrong information. I visit just about everyday and learn something new all the time. I've owned 2 Case 446 over the last year I just need to take the time to introduce myself.

Great site and keep up the good work.

We really do appreciate having Lurkers here.

In truth, every forum's member's list consists of more than just "active members" and "Lurkers". There are also what I call "dead members". These are people who took the time to join the site for whatever reason that struck them at the time. Some of them spent about five minutes on the site and then never came back. Some came back a few times, never posted and haven't been back since. Perhaps they came to look something up in the Library or to download a manual they needed. That's OK... If doing so helped them get their tractor running again and kept it from being scrapped or parted out, then we are happy. Mission accomplished. Others, such as yourself, come back here on a regular basis to keep up with various discussions. You want to learn more about how to maintain your tractor or how others are using their tractor. All of that is good in our eyes as well. We don't expect you to join into every thread on the site but don't sell yourself short either. You've owned two tractors and have probably spent some time using them. There may well be a thread started at some point that speaks about an experience that a member is sharing with the group and that experience is similar to your own. How you dealt with that issue is something that you could post about even if it parallels what someone else has already stated.

For example....... if someone posted that their tractor developed a crack in the frame at a certain spot, most of us would say "Hey.....that's unusual. I've never heard of that before." Now if you bought a tractor that had a repair done in that very spot and posted about it, then your post becomes quite significant. Other owners might dismiss the first report but when a 2nd one shows up....... that's when they start checking their own tractor to see if a problem is developing or not. The point is this. We don't expect you to be a highly experienced mechanic before you feel confident enough to contribute to threads or to start your own thread. What you experience with your own tractor and attachments is valid education that can be shared with the members. Perhaps you live in an area of the country that has very sandy soil or pine cones or other localized issues that play havoc with your mowing deck and blades. I don't have those problems. Therefore, your experience makes you smarter than I am. No one should assume that anyone on this forum knows it all. That's just not true.

Then of course there are probably a few "what's he saying now" members. These are people from other sites that could not wait for Hydriv to be gone, yet they signed up here almost immediately to continue reading his posts. :headscratcher:

Well its a well known fact that you'll fare better if you stand on the back side of a loaded gun if its pointed at you. I've read some of Uncle Tom's verbal exchange's on other forum's and I'm here to tell ya I'm glad I wasn't standing in front of that loaded gun.You always have to remember he's packin heat. And you always want to remember to try & work yourself around to his back side whilst conversing with him. The splivbags from the other forums probably figured it was safer to come here and read under the vail of anonymity , less powder burns that way. :sidelaugh: :canada:

I guess I am a Lurker. I purchased a 444 a little over a year ago and a 446 with black frame last fall. I have had no problem with them. The only thing i know about them is what i have learned here. I have just always loved those big wheels. Fortunately I have had no problems with them but i come here in case i do. There is so much information here that if the time comes that i need any this is where i will find it. Lloyd

That was then and this is now.

People tell me that Hilda is a kinder, gentler type of soul with a thousand points of light surrounding her. :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh: :sidelaugh:

Haven't had much time to visit lately let alone post. Enjoy visiting (lurking) and surfing the classified on occasion to see if there is anything I can't live without. Usually scan the tractor section for entertainment. Will certainly consult the tech library with any maintenance projects. Really like the upgrades to the site, seems more user friendly for newbies. Keep up the good work.
