I found a garage kept Case 442. The old thing is super clean, and runs excellent. Problem, no deck, nothing, just the tractor. He said he left the deck propped up next to his garage 3 years ago, and it walked off. The original owner will not come off the $500.00 price at all. If it had a deck I'd pick it up. I'm still torn. I like these old big tired 4 series. And I am freaking nuts, like I need another one.

One thing to consider is whether it has snap fast attachment set up. The old style implements are a little scarce. Gregg

There are lots of factors here such as why do you want this tractor? Meaning...if you get it, what will you do with it?
442's were only made for 3 years. The first two years, they used the old style deck that is similar to the one used on the older 195 model. The last year, they got the Snap Fast pins and that makes finding another deck a lot easier.
The first 442 has the elephant ear fenders that were used on the 190 and 195 models and it also got the PK (Performance King) label.
Condition is everything as are options. To a collector, a really mint 442PK with the rear PTO/FCV and the F-30 Hy-lift is worth more than a 1971 442 without those options. To someone just wanting to cut grass and blow/plow snow, then the 1971 is far more appealing.
Photos would help but if this unit has been stored inside all the time and it is a 71, then $500.00 isn't too far off the mark.

If you have the means I'd buy the tractor and keep your eyes open for a replacement deck. $500 for a garage kept 442 - sounds pretty good to me.
Anything else available on the tractor i.e. holding valve, flow control valve, rear PTO, sleeve hitch or three point?

I went back to look again. It's a 71 with fast attach on it. He offered it to me for $475.00 throwing in a Case garden cart. Cart has a lot of surface rust. And I bought the frigging thing. :headscratcher: Stupid, Stupid, Stupid addicition. I have absolutely no where to put the thing. I AM NOT BUYING ANY MORE OF THESE THINGS. Well, maybe a 444 or 446.
