Case 6018 Engine Swap, Need Help

1151 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Bilgerat
I have a Case 6018 with Oman 18HP engine and it is very hard to start up. I would like to install my Honda GX620 engine. Has anyone here done that before?

I saw a pump adapter and jaw coupling that won't fit to my GX620 engine. If anyone has a link or photo that could help me, please share with me.

?? Sorry to hear you are getting away from the Onan, they're very good engines and its likely all that is wrong with the Onan is that the intake manifold needs to be resealed. It's likely that the manifold is leaking air, the engine is running lean and needs lots of choke to get started. Wish I knew where you lived as I might be interested in buying the onan.

There was one version of the 60xx's that used a honda, I am not sure what model. Without your tractors serial number I really don't have much to go on.. I know the last 6020's built around 2000 did not use Lovejoy brand couplings, but a different brand. If is a Lovejoy, it should have a coupling model like L-110, L-090 and based on that 'coupling size' you can look up what model number has the correct bore to match your crank. Product Catalogs - Lovejoy - a Timken company

All you need to do is measure the diameter of the pump shaft and also the engine shaft. Then order a lovejoy coupler to fit both sides. It shouldn’t be that difficult. The engine mounting will have to be changed and fabricate a new exhaust system. I like the Honda engines myself and have two GX620 engines on a shelf. Thinking of transplanting one in a 646. I’ll be watching this thread to see how you making out with your project. ✌Harry

I would reconsider,, when I got my 646 it had a GX620 ,,95%% transplanted in it,, I finished the swap and used the 646 ,power was good but heat from engine and exhaust would run me off the drivers seat, I repaired the original CCK and reinstalled it with correct tin and exhaust,,its better. I still have the Honda and parts in the corner of my shop.

The 6000 series (6018 and 6020) tractors have the engine reversed from the 600 series so the cooling airflow blows out the front of the tractor. The hydraulic pump is out front and there is no provision for a clutch as the 600 series machined have.

Yep, that pretty typical of 'log splitter' pump mounts. Case - Ingersoll made a number of their own mounts, the one used on the 646's for a long time was:

The crank shaft on the engine is just long enough for the lovejoy coupler and you might get a sheet of paper between the back side of that coupler and the flange on the engine.

I've been using duramax 16 & 18 hp, very good motors, Honda clones .1/3 price of Honda , brigs, vanguard big bore single cylinder and a lot easier v twin, and easier to turbo charge.
