Oregon OPE also offers it....33-116 if anyone is interested. Bob M
Some aftermarket suppliers list clutches that replace both the 5215-53 AND the 5215-35 which I currently have on my 446. In other words, they show them as equivalent numbers. If that is the case, it should work.

Thanks for info. Do you know whether this clutch will work on the Onan P216 engine? I have been told the warner 5215-42 / C47444 clutch is what I need for this engine and haven't been able to locate an alternate part number.

Thanks, Brad

Scabble eggs? Sounds un-appetizing. Having a tough time deciphering that one...
You guys are talking about two very different applications of electric clutches.
The 5215-53 would be used on a Case/Ingersoll that had a manual clutch originally and the shaft was turned down to fit a 1" ID electric clutch and the tractor modified to accomodate it.
A 5215-42 is a clutch that is used on a 3000-4000 Onan P series engine powered Ingersoll that has an electric clutch as original equipment.

I believe that is a CW rotation clutch which is OK for 3000 and 4000 series, but the 5215-35 and 5215-53 are CCW which is what you want for the 200 and 400 series. You will have to turn a pto drive hub down to 1" OD and use washers or bushings to set the pulley depth to its stock location.

Hi, Bob, looks like you beat me to the punch. At least I know I'm on the right track with the info I just passed along.

Hi Brad,
To answer your question, yes a Warner 5215-42 will fit on a P216 as installed in a 3000-4000 series Ingersoll tractor. A 5215-42 is a C47444. An upgrade kit for this clutch is available from an Ingersoll dealer and the kit number is C48626. This kit includes a different style clutch that has a higher torque rating and all the parts needed to install it.

Thanks Bob. I plan on contacting one of the dealers in the spring for the C48626 kit containing the upgraded Warner TG 2000 series PTO clutch, but with a quote price of $309 that $170 price on the 200-400 series clutch sounds like a bargain. From what I understand this new clutch kit for the 3000/4000 is supposed to help eliminate the possible grounding issue that a few have experienced with the older clutch so that is a plus.
Hi again Brad,
The price of a clutch depends primarily on its popularity. The vast majority of clutches are used on vertical shaft engines on mowers and Ingersoll is possibly the only tractor with a horizontal shaft engine. Not that horizontal is bad but the close proximity to the exhaust and cooling air outflow puts the clutch in a different environment than a vertical shaft engine. The upgraded clutch kit is supposed to have taken this into consideration and with an increase in torque rating should make the kit a beneficial upgrade. I went thru 3 5215-42 clutches on my 4018 and since I have repowered it with a Vanguard 18 I am using a different clutch as the Vanguard has a 1" diameter crankshaft. The clutch is similar to a 5215-42 but with a higher torque rating and a 1" ID. It will still be subjected to the high temps but it is less expensive than the -42 and I keep a new one in my spare parts stash.

Brad and Bob,
Looks like I got my wires crossed. Brad, I don't know why, but I assumed that you had put a P216 in the tractor in your avatar (old style engine orientation with flywheel facing forward) and were looking to retrofit to an electric clutch. But now I realize that you must also have a 4-digit tractor and are just looking for an economical, durable replacement clutch for it. DOH! Sorry if I caused any confusion to anyone but myself
John
I do have an updated engine in my '77 446, but so far the manual clutch has been treating me well. My '89 3016 is the PTO problem child at the moment.

Thanks, Brad
