If you are a member of this forum, then you are also a member of the garden tractor community, whether you realize it or not. Sure, i know that many of you do not collect but if you own an old Colt, Case or Ingersoll, then you must have an interest in fine garden tractors in general.
Every hobby needs to have a magazine to cover what's going on with the hobby itself and those who make up the hobby. No magazine does that better than Lawn and Garden Collector. Perhaps you may wonder why I push this magazine as hard as I do. There is no singular answer to that question. Every new issue brings me information that I was not aware of. To me, if someone with a Wheelhorse comes up with a unique idea, there's a good chance that I can apply that idea to a Case tractor. I say this because i got an e-mail from a member that in part said "......but from the looks of everything I have seen regarding the magazine, it is primarily geared towards three other brands....... with very little mention of Case machines....."
In my reply, I pointed out that his comment really wasn't fair because he had not read so much as a single issue so how could he make such a blanket statement? That got me thinking that perhaps some of the other members might be thinking along the same lines and therefore decided to not subscribe. So I pulled out all my back issues and leafed through them looking for Colt, Case and Ingersoll content. In the very first issues of Volume 1 of LAGC, Steve Guider wrote at least 3 articles about Colt tractors that were fairly in depth. The publisher Brandon did an article on the new Ingersoll 4223 and pictured it with him operating it.
If you are a fair-minded person, then you cannot expect to see an article about Colt or Case or Ingersoll tractors in every issue. That's just not reasonable. But my review tells me that LAGC has been very fair to our favorite brand, while also including a wide variety of other brands to add interest to each issue. Now I know that many of you have thought about subscribing to LAGC but for one reason or another, you have not made the commitment. If you are seriously considering becoming a subscriber and would like to SEE the COMPLETE issue that covers Jan/Feb 2011, then send me a PM. I will provide you with a free copy in digital form so you can get a first-hand taste of LAGC. The fact that there are no articles in this issue that pertain to our brand should not matter to you. Instead, judge the magazine on the way it is put together, the variety of articles inside, the quality of the photos and all the features that are there in every issue.
For those how are still sitting on the fence, here are some past photos that I scanned from various issues.
