My 1969 tractor has head bolts and my 1986 has studs with spacers....they are both 14HP K321.When I rebuild these motors, is there any advantage to studs over bolts or should I just replace with like fasteners.I went to B.Millers site ,but could not find anything about this.Am I overthinking this (as usual) :crazy: :wtf:

Generally speaking, studs are usually thread National Fine for the nuts that hold the head and National Course for the end that screws into the block. Fine thread gives you better control over the torque setting and it also discourages the loosening of the fastener. At least...that's the theory.

Would I lose any sleep over this issue? Nope. Course threaded bolts have been used on automobile engines in the billions.
