Those of you who have been reading this forum for some time know that I no longer bother looking for tractors in my home Province of Ontario because the asking prices are usually rather insane in my opinion.
In the past week, Maynard posted about a 155 that was for sale just a 2 hour drive east of me. The asking price was $300.00. The Seller said that the engine was 14HP.......which may have been true but certainly not correct for a 155 that came with a 10 HP Kohler K. The engine was now out of the chassis so that meant the tractor was non-operative and could not be assessed. So I went through the Kijiji e-mail process and asked if this aged listing still had a tractor available. A reply came back stating that it was.
I wrote back asking why the engine had been removed and if it was truly a 14 HP engine or a 10 HP engine. I also asked if the Seller was flexible on the price. To my mind, all of those were reasonable questions in the circumstance. Who wants to drive 4 hours and come home empty because the owner won't budge on the price? My direct e-mail never got an answer so I went back to the Kijiji listing and tried through that. Still not so much as a whimper from the Seller. Apparently he/she doesn't understand the concept of "an interested buyer" and would rather keep that pile of junk sitting around in the hopes of the Case Fairy showing up and dropping three new hundred dollar bills.
As you are also aware .......or should be........ Mastifflawyer Jack searches listings every day for this site. Instead of sending them to me every morning like he used to do before we began this site, he posts them here UNLESS......he doesn't want to share them with the unwashed, surly group that make up the membership here. Today was one of those days. Jack sent me a listing for a 2310 Colt with deck. Since Jack already has a 2310, he enticed me with that listing even though I said that my cup is running over and the rooms in the Inn have been at full occupancy for a year now. So I called the gentleman that owns the Colt and we had a nice conversation while he sipped his first cup of coffee for the day. You can get a pretty good sense as to who is on the other end of the line from such conversations and so I agreed to buy his Colt....sight unseen.....based on his description....for his asking price. He has agreed to remove the listing and hold the tractor for my shipper to pick up and take to Jack's Colt Corral to re-acquaint himself with his long-lost brethren until I can bring him home.
At this point, I am glad that the silly person here in Ontario took the position they did. I ended up with a tractor that is much more desirable to me because Colts were never sold in Canada and very few collectors own one, let alone three like I now do. Yes.... it will cost me a bit more due to what my shipper will charge me to pick it up but that's OK. If you want something bad enough, the few extra bucks to obtain it are long forgot down the road.
Life is strange....
