I have two Onan engines that I am trying to identify. Any help or tips on where to look for identifying numbers would be appreciated.
Engine 1. Sheet metal says Performer 218XSL. Some of the ID tag has been rubbed off. This is what I can make out:
Model #: ?21?
Spec.:1/1090?
Model:B893518334
Either the tin is not the original and/or the air filter housing is incorrect. The breather tube does not line up with the hole in the bottom housing. The hole in the housing is not centered. It is offset and the breather tube does not reach over that far. It has the newer style filter cover with the offset indented center, but the older style carb deflector. The filter cover bottoms out on the carb deflector and does not seal properly on the air filter. The crank has been shortened to fit the Case lovejoy coupling. The engine fits in my '75 446 with the exception of the tractor hydraulic return tube hitting the starter.
Engine 2. Is a short block take off from an RV generator. The previous owner of my '75 446 had removed it from his RV and installed it in the 446. I have never tried to run it because the P.O. said there is a problem with the governor. The block is painted the Onan generator Blue/Green.
Does piston size differentiate the 16/18/20 horse engines?
Thanks,
Joey
