New 646

I finally bought a 646, or most of it anyhow. I usually beat my case tractors pretty hard or at least I thought I did. This thing is in pretty sad shape but I think I can save it. So far I got rims and tires for it, 26-12-12’s for the rear and made a set of rims and took off the 20’s on the front and for some 18’s. Every part of the steering is shot so I think that calls for power steering. I got a nice 20hp onan on the shelf I can put in it. Next step is to fix the top of the dash tower where something must of fell on it smashed it and put new bushings in for the loader pins so they ain’t oval.

Yes, looks like I am missing everything engine related under the hood, last guy parted out a 200 series tractor and swapped all that in to it. Missing hood and fenders.

Well, when I redid my 648,, there was a lot missing, but over time I was able to gather most of what I need, so I suspect you'll be able to manage that as well,,,

Once you're all settled down with it, it would be worth while making up a list of whats missing, and posting it on here with parts wanted,, that'll get you some,, along with watching ebay like a hawk. That's the fun part, starting with lees then waht you need, finding the stuff, and eventually,, you'll got a running tractor.

Makes it worth while,,,

Scott Welcome to the LOADER Club.. I'll send you a PM with the list of Loader specific posts and repairs.. You also can probably learn from the P/S upgrade I did on my '73 646..

Damm nice work! Curious, have you weighed it? Every pound of bucket is a pound less payload. Used to see this on farm loaders, guy builds great bucket but heavy. No you won't ever bend it, but either he couldn't get it to dig or couldn't lift much of anything with it. Today's loaders come with pretty good buckets now and the lift capacity is more than double of ones built back in the 60s and 70s.

didnt weigh it to start with but by adding 4” of width and a 1/2 cutting edge probably added 15 to 20 pounds at tops. The cutting edge is butt welded to the front edge of bucket so maybe added 1/4” of thickness there is all.
