Removing the tiller extension on a L74

I'm wanting to remove the extension on my L74 tiller so that I get a little deeper into the ground (still a little on the damp side here in Missouri).

Don't ill me but I couldn't get the tiller parts manual to pull up from the reference section here but I found a copy here: http://www.rottmansales.com/ingersoll/8-1642.pdf

From the diagram of the tiller shaft, the extension comes out after removing the right pin that goes though the right side but I'm suppose to have a "C26343 SHAFT - stub" to replace it with, right?

Without that stub shaft I can't remove the extension as otherwise there won't be anything to support the right side of the tiller shaft? I assume the stub shaft was included from the Ingersoll dealer when this tiller was new and since lost by prior owner(s)?

Only other thing I can think of to do is to just remove the tines on the extension?

Makes sense to me....
The SS74 stub shaft kit is available from Ingersoll for $72. It was not included as OEM equipment with the 41" tillers.

If your only goal is to ease up on the load and dig deeper, then yes the tines could be removed. Narrowing to 30" is mostly to improve access to tight locations.

For that price I guess I will leave it on!

I would have thought ingersoll would have designed it differently so that one could just pop that extension off. BTW - this is the first Case/Ingersoll tiller I have ever used and it does kick butt!

Even if it only kicks 45 minutes at a time! :sidelaugh: Sorry man, I just couldn't resist.
