I am going to place an order to Mcmaster for engine mounts and was thinking about ordering the bearings to upgrade the front wheels. I tried to search for the post where there was a shopping list but was unable to find the post, anyone know what I need to order?

Hi Group,
I plan on doing this steering upgrade.

I'm also contemplating counter-boring the the king pin bores, top and bottom to 1.00 inch to a depth of .625 inch and press in "Torrington" type needle bearings. (McMaster Carr page 1137)

My 1940 Plymouth uses this set up on the king pins. It seems like this would reduce turning effort to a minimum.

How about it guys, what are your thoughts?

Cheers,

Ron

I did the "Poor Mans Steering" upgrade on my 446.I also added what is called a V-Lip seal around the bearing stack to maybe help contain grease and keep some of the water out.I dont have correct numbers right now but if you look at Motion Industries website and do search for a 400400 V-Lip seal,it should be the one for the bearings for the 1 inch shaft,(seal fits around bearing stack)and the 400320 should be the one for the 3/4 shaft.Verify your o.d. of bearings first to be sure.Seems to work good.I will know better when I pull it apart and see if it did indeed keep grease in and moisture out.Kevin
