That my friend, is an L-29 540 RPM, front-mounted mechanical PTO that is belt driven off the front of the engine. It is used on farms to power grain augers/elevators and bale elevators mostly so that a full-size Ag tractor can be free to haul wagons from the field back to the the storage area. John Deere offered them too but their unit looks pretty silly compared to the Case. This attachment is no longer available and it only works on three-digit models.
I did see Barts design and I have thought about it to great length. I sold a brand new mule drive about 6 months ago and then realized I could have used it and modifed it to work for my future project. I willl keep looking for another one.
I believe these are pictures of Barts generator. It's a very slick design. I've kept them because I still plan on doing the same thing.
The last pic would be much easier to fab up but someone advised that the gen head would need to have a thrust bearing to be able to run upside down like that.
I would think that the genset would employ ball-bearing races. In my opinion, there would be no need for a separate thrust bearing but to be on the safe side, I would consult with the engineering department of the company that makes the genset.
