My understand is that the first three characters in the serial number represent the month and year of engine manufacture. A=January, B=February so G= July. Being a mid year engine, I would expect your tractor to be a '79, but it could be an '80.

Thanks View attachment 128920
This information is correct, based on a July engine manufacture date, I would expect your tractor to be a 1980 production model year. Easy enough to verify, as 1980 was the first year of the long frame models and would have the stamped footrests rather than the diamond plate design. My understand is that the first three characters in the serial number represent the month and year of engine manufacture. Agreed Gordy, but I think you mean the tractor s/n rather than the date may be stamped there. Can't remember when they started doing that, but I think early 80's.Also try looking at the front of the front axle support, the date should be stamped there. As I recall, as you are looking at it, it should be to the right of the axle pivot pin. It can be hard to read either due to lite stamping or thick paint.
Cheers,
Gordy
