I went on the Eastman Ingersoll site today just to see if there was anything new. I know that the site showed the company was for sale a few months ago. The notice that the company is for sale is no longer on the site, and when you click on tractors there is an interesting photo

Somebody have an update? Looks interesting....

Notice the Eastman contact information has been removed from website, too.
Also, the hover mower stuff has been separated. When you look up the Hover Mower, a company called Eastern Industries in Chester, NH is apparently the current owner of that line.

I think the hood and fenders in the picture are computer generated and have been superimposed on a picture of a real tractor (complete with grass on the front tires).

I don't often weigh in on Ingersoll/Eastman subjects, but here I will point out a few things.

While I too have mixed feelings about the design itself, and the presumption of plastic, this photo/rendering shows some intriguing development.

It is a matter of public record that the hood dies were destroyed by a vendor after Rothemberger (sp?) took Ingersoll to bankruptcy. According to the defense in the lawsuit, the hood tool was low volume (by sheet metal industry standards) and made to a 'prototype' standard. That means it could probably only last 10,000 hits at an automotive industry quality before needing major refurbishment. Well it also generally means the vendor owns the material (typically kirksite for a part this size) and has the right to recycle it after a certain period of downtime or non-payment. And so they did. Most estimates from the public law suit information are that Eastman recovered about 10 cents on the dollar of the value of that die set. Eastman contacted us early in their time with the company to judge our support of going more modern and plastic ... I did not know why at the time and only through the forums did I learn a few years later about the public court records related to these stamping tools. New hoods and tractors continued to show up for years after that tool was scrapped, but the supply has limits before needing to be retooled.

Now there is a design standing out there, which solves that long term production dilemma.

The rear turf tire size of 8-16 has long been understood on the forums to be a unique Ingersoll item. Maybe in the early days it was not, or maybe Case had those tires made specifically for them. That would have been a normal step for a company like JI Case. The tire molds appear to have been refurbished and rebranded over the years, but always kept the basic design details. While I have no keen evidence, I have been of the impression that the tire die either no longer exists, or requires a massive run of quantity to produce more. While tractors continued to show up new until not so long ago, Eastman had cut off service parts supply of tires as early as 2008.

Now there is what I bet to be an industry standard 15" turf tire on an Ingersoll tractor.

The other piece, which also accompanies the hood problem, is the headlights. The speaker rectangular headlights have been out of production for ages now. Another vendor bought or recreated the lens dies, but the full lamp assemblies are in quite short supply (new). While we believe Eastman has a suitable quantity packed away, the service stock has been temporarily exhausted and I am not aware of a suitable replacement, despite many attempts.

Now there is a hood design, which presumably uses a readily available, modern lamp.

I for one eagerly await the next developments.

Plastics or metal hoods, either be OK with me. But, the molded stuff that JD uses is NOT ok with me. The older JD and others that used fiberglass composites similar to that in boats is fine. The current JD and others is not repairable. It cracks and cannot be successfully repaired IMO.

Fiberglass on the other hand can be repaired, modified, repainted etc forever.

I wouldn't base a purchase decision on the lack of a metal hood, as long as the composite replacement is a quality piece.

Club, I have been asked by a member here to share what I can about Eastman-Ingersoll. My brother will be home today from out east. I think he had six stops, with truck and 22 ft. trailer. This trip has been in the making for months to put all together. One stop was the building that Eastman-Ingersoll rented, where he had planned to meet The Ingersoll GM. There are 22 semi trailers full of gigs, parts ect. (so he was told) There are five of the trailers just down the road from the plant that Charlie got to open and look at, they are packed full. He was told the other 17 trailers are about a hour away. He was told that there is enough stuff in trailers now to build 100 tractors less the engines. The GM also told him that they have two very interested buyers at this time that they are talking with. Sorry but this is all that I can share at this time. I will post more when we here more. Thanks all, Bill, Barneveld Imp.

They wanted $500,000 for enough parts to build 100 tractors of a design that is over 20 years old? Plus the cost of engines, tires, ect. How many parts are damaged from moving? If you assembled these tractors what would you do for warranty parts? And they have 2 other potential buyers? Good luck. I cant believe that someone doesn't start making a fabricated replacement RM48 deck. Used tractors are common, good decks aren't.

Terry, They had contacted us three times in the last two years trying to talk us into buying them, So in our talks, they tell us there is over 1 million in value in the trailers. They had started to gear up (at one time) for close to 1000 tractors, so like the front axle assy. they have over 900 of them alone, plus all the jigs to build all, plus all the slower moving parts that CPD did not buy, because they would not discount them, over 1/2 million in slower moving parts. Yes they lowered price from 750 to $500,000, we had tossed the number out there of $250,000, but they did not like that.At this time we are only interested in having someone buy Ingersoll, but not us. Again this is what they tell us, we never got a paper trail (inventory list) Bill, Barneveld Imp.

$250,000 would be more reasonable. I see the value in decks, snowcasters, rear ends, pumps, hydraulic hoses, electric clutches, steering parts, ect. Parts like front axles in a qty of 900 would have scrap value. The fixtures they used 25 years ago would be very inefficient compared to what you could design today. I don't know how high you could price them in todays market. My son got a deal on a new 4wd diesel Kubota for under $14,000. Are you sure you don't want to get into the tractor manufacturing business?

I had the same experience buying a Kioti. $14 k bought a 4 wheel drive, 23 hp diesel with FEL. I added a backhoe, front mounted snow blower, tiller, box blade. It's a small cut, but one rugged beast. As much as I love Case / Ingersoll I still need to be realistic.

I e-mailed them to ask them about that new design. They sent a reply that that was a" new prototype they had planned on releasing back in 2008-9 before the economy dropped. They have a running prototype with quite a few new bells and whistles but cannot divulge any further information at this time. The Company is being sold and we hope the new owners continue the quest."
