Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently...

:headscratcher: Name something that you would have liked to have seen Case change or should have designed differently when they built the garden tractors... name just one!
For an example... I wish they would have built a better front axle pivot. (Like the one I'm currently working on. )

Gee, I wish I didn't have to pick just one.

1. Most of all, I wish they had kept the Colt name.. I think that might have helped make the company survive better after they sold it.

2. I wish they never sold it.

Sorry.................. I know...... those have nothing to do with the design.

I think that they should have found a way to make the tractor turn sharper in both directions.

I would say a manually controlled differential locker. While I understand most tractors have open diffs, GT's spend their life in much lower traction conditions. Traction has always been my biggest issue with use of these wonderful GT's.

Re: Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently..

Considering my tractors are 46 - 40 - 36 - and 29 years old, they work amazingly well for what I need and want to do with them. I realize things don't last forever, and parts do wear out. On mine the worst for wear is a little slop in the steering, and for now I can live with that. Even my old 150 can do what my neighbor does with his much newer Green Machine. With that said, I'm with Hydrive's #2, in wishing Case never sold the company.

Nolan

Re: Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently..

I too will chime in on the steering issue. The 'poor man's power steering' has helped, but when the snowcaster is strapped on to the 448, it appears my steering attempts are secondary to the wishes of the tractor/snowcaster. Maybe I should be considering operator error and try ribs? :headscratcher:

Re: Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently..

I wish they made the things easier to get on and off of. I'm small and still have a heck of a time getting off. I have to do a "fender slide" to dismount the thing. Other thing is with the tank forward style I cant keep the oil from leaking out the tank cap.

Re: Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently..

:goodpost: I would have liked a hydraulic cylinder on the snow/dirt blade so you could angle the blade remotely. And of course hydraulic quick disconnects up front and controls for this to happen. Otherwise I couldn't be more happy with the Case product and that's not a deal breaker anyway. :usa: :usa: :usa:

I would have to second Rockdog's comment about dismounting. As a vertically challenged endomorph, I too have to use the fender slide mode of disembarkation. It is not a pretty sight and frightening to small children. I just figured the Case engineers were all skinny-assed guys since the driver's real estate is so restricted.

Same here. Front and rear hydraulic remotes on EVERY 400/4000 tractor would have set them apart from other brands big time.

Steering brakes would be nice.

Adult beverage holder would be good to! :trink:

I-Pod / Android compatibility :ugeek: !

Otherwise, if you think the steering radius is poor on the older tractors, check out the 3000 series power steering models. My 3018PS needs an outside area of at least 15' across to make a circle. My inside edge lawn mowing diameter with a 44" deck is not less than 8'. I back up a lot!

:headscratcher: I wish that they would have added a Horn so that in the future when I'm Cruising the street in my re-furbed 224-79RR I could Beep as I smile at my neighbors. :trink:

Re: Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently..

Introducing the integral holding valve in the travel valve much sooner. Also, I agree with Wurkenman, the access panel doesn't give much access to anything at all. Side access panels on the control tower to better get at some of the hydraulic connections and the pump?

Re: Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently..

Color combo!!! that is where Case has really dropped the ball for the last 100+ years.. No other tractor company has had so many different color combos

Lets see..........
Dark Grey
Light Grey
Flambeau
Desert Sunset/ Flambeau
Power white/ Power Red
Power White/ Black
IH Red/ Black

Whew that was a mouthfull......... not to mention the green implements back in the 50's... now there was a smart moove :sidelaugh:

Steering brakes for sure. That would solve the sharp turning problem too, although I can turn mine almost as sharp as "modern" lawn tractors. Looks like somebody's going to have to explore fabbing steering brakes on a Case GT.

Sometimes I feel like I'd settle for ANY brakes.

If I get around to it this summer I'm going to try adapting disc brakes off my old Cub Cadet. If it works, it seems like a fairly inexpensive, fairly easy to do mod.

Agree with Rich and Chuck on this one. Seems like front hydraulic fittings would've been a good optional accessory from the factory.

Ahhh yes... I've polished many a fenders on mine as well - they are bare metal but look like chrome.

Those of you who have never experienced a 600 series (or newer) they are even worse, your foot won't even fit on the foot rest - great machine but it was designed for a child to operate.

The hydraulic blade pivot is a great idea as well, the remotes should have been offered as an option at least..

Re: Name 1 thing you wish Case would have done differently..

hydraulic shift between transaxle ranges. Easy to do with all that hyd power available. Might as well make it constant mesh, shift on the go too!

Would be nice to pull a load of dirt in the box blade in low, dump and spread then pop into hi to get back to the pile quickly. Even better if the trans is in a loader!
